I've forgotten the combination to my Master Lock. If I send you the serial number from the back of the lock, can you e-mail the combination to me, or give it to me over the phone?

Due to security considerations, Master Lock can't give out lock combinations through e-mail or over the telephone. In order to prevent unauthorized users from accessing your locks, we ask that you follow these steps when attempting to find a lost combination:

If your lock is not locked down (easily portable):

  • Take your lock to a local hardware store (Ace, Tru-Valu), Home Center (Home Depot, Lowes, HWI, Do-It-Best) or locksmith.
  • They may be able to obtain a new combination utilizing the serial number on the back of the lock.

If your lock is secured to an immovable object:

  • Contact your local locksmith or Home Center (Home Depot, Lowes, HWI, Do-It-Best).
  • Provide them with requested identification and proof of ownership.
  • They may be able to obtain a new combination for you utilizing the serial number on the back of the lock.

Please note that not every store will offer this service, and that some may charge you a fee. Please call ahead!

Master Lock does not provide combination replacement service directly to consumers.

Can you send me a refund for a look-up service charge? I took my lock to the local hardware store to look up a lost combination. They found the combo, but then charged me for the service! Isn't this wrong?
Some stores will charge a small fee for providing this service. Master Lock has no control over this and cannot provide you with a refund. We suggest calling and asking about such charges before taking your lock to the store.

The hardware store/Home Center no longer provides combination look-up service. What should I do now?
Occasionally, a store will stop offering this service due to lack of demand or time constraints. In this case, we suggest calling a locksmith, who is usually able to handle this type of request. Always call ahead to ensure that your particular store provides these types of services.

I live in a rural area, can you e-mail the combination to me? I do not have a local hardware store close by.
To ensure security, it is our policy that an authorized dealer or distributor submits all combination requests. However, we realize that this is not always possible. In order to protect the security of all consumers, we ask that you fax us a photocopy of the back of your lock. This should clearly show us the serial number, and prove that it is not attached to any personal property. Be sure to also write the serial number on your fax, as the numbers are small and may become smudged. Please fax to Master Lock at 1-800-308-9245, and include your e-mail address. If the lock is attached to your personal property, you will need to call a locksmith. In some cases, the cost for this service may exceed the cost of purchasing a new lock.

I've lost the combination to my resettable Master Lock. Can you tell me what it is?
Resettable combination locks have a combination that is assigned by the owner of the lock. Therefore, Master Lock does not know the combination that the owner set. The lock cannot be reset unless it is in the open position. If your lock is attached to something, you will need to cut it off, or call a locksmith for removal.

Someone was playing around with my backpack lock and accidentally reset the combination. Now neither one of us knows the correct combination. Is there any way to reset this lock back to "0" and assign a new combo?
Unfortunately, this lock is not resettable without knowing the combination that was assigned by the owner. It's most likely that you will need to purchase a new lock.
